Do Hard Things

Last week I completed the 75Hard Challenge

But what does that mean? And why should you care?

Well, first for those that don’t know, let me tell you what it even is.

It is a 75 Day long challenge consisting of the below elements…

  1. Follow a Diet (NO Cheat Meals)
  2. No Alcohol (NOT A SIP)
  3. Workout 2X a day for 45 minutes (1 Outdoors)
  4. Drink 1 Gallon of Water DAILY
  5. Read 10 pages of Non-Fiction DAILY
  6. Take a Progress Pic DAILY

NO Exceptions. NO Excuses.

If you miss one thing on any day you start over!

And you can probably guess what happened just five days into my journey…

Yep…

Fail.
Miss.
Restart.

So logically this begs the question…

Why would anyone in their right mind do this?

Well…

Here are three good reasons or at least they were good enough reasons for me.

  1. I was getting SOFT and needed to develop Mental Toughness
  2. I was NEGOTIATING with myself A LOT and exhibiting Poor Discipline
  3. I was too INCONSISTENT with my Habits, Rituals & Routines.

You see the challenge is far more about Mental Discipline than it is Physical Fitness.

It is about…

  • Having Grit
  • Unshakeable Will
  • Strengthening Resolve

It is about… Seeking Discomfort

It is about… GROWTH

And in my experience all of these things were very much the case!

So as I sit here looking at the progress pictures and reflecting on my journey I feel compelled to share my experience and takeaways.

I strengthened my resolve and built my discipline muscle.
I can Do Hard Stuff!

I stopped negotiating with myself as the challenge progressed.
My WILL is NOT for sale!

I created a solid morning routine inclusive of the first 2.5 Hours of each day.
I am back in the 5AM Club for the first time in a decade!

I honestly hadn’t looked at the pictures since I started but when I wrapped up and saw them side by side I couldn’t help it smile at the progress.

So if that pic of my fat ass inspires just one person to take on the challenge than it and this post is worth it.

I will offer one caveat though, if you’re here reading and thinking you might “TRY” this, don’t even waste your time.

You must be Committed and Strategic.

Conversely if you’re reading this and serious about creating a massive shift in your life this is the ticket I promise you will not regret it!
